District heating - data, prices, key figures

    Primary energy factor

Applicable since 1 January 2010, the Act on the Promotion of Renewable Energies in the Heat Sector (EEWärmeG) stipulates requirements for use of renewable energies in new buildings and renovated old buildings. A key parameter in this context is the primary energy requirement of a building, which must not exceed the stipulated limits. Thus, a building may consume only a defined amount of energy per year. For this purpose, the energy consumed in the upstream chain of an energy source is also considered. Energy losses in production, conversion and distribution of an energy source – as measured by the primary energy factor – have thus a decisive influence on the primary energy requirement, and the lower the primary energy factor, the better. A low primary energy factor entitles the customer to avail himself of loans provided by public funding institutions.
